A Change for Jester
September 24, 2009
Today was an historic day at the Dark Satanic Mill. It was a very historic day. At long last, Jester and the Dark Satanic Mill have parted company. And not just Jester but all her immediate colleagues as well.
It wasn’t a mass walk-out, redundancies or sackings. It’s just the Dark Satanic Mill has sold the part of the concern in which Jester and her colleagues work. To be honest, I will not notice the transition for a while because things will not change for some time. We already know the new company’s name but we will not be using it at first (maybe I will call it the Less Dark Satanic Mill or, if we have the misfortune of things getting worse, the Darker Satanic Mill – perish the thought!). We will stay in the same office until a new one is sorted out and presumably new working practises will come in eventually. So, for now, it will be a case of plus ça change…
The worst case scenario is that the new company emulates the pigs in George Orwell’s Animal Farm and, in time, we are not able to see the difference between the new company and the old one, but I am an optimist on the whole and I am looking forward to working for the New Satanic Mill.
I'm a 40 something woman with three pretty-well grown up children. I work in a contact centre. I very occasionally play the piano. I love going to punk gigs and mixing with punks and skinheads. I enjoy playing Scrabble, preferably online but also with my family. I like fell walking and I spend far too much time on the computer.
